Were We Not?

54

By Not Telling

Were we not?

Yes.

Though but a dream

We were.

We were

As lovers entwined

Never touching

Knowing all and nothing

Of each other

It is no indictment

No wrong

To know and want

Yet be friends only

And never lonely

As each the other has

Overlooking separate oceans

Separate lives

Separate loves

Yet joined somehow

Are we not?

If it were in me

To trade

One person for another

Having found you

Precious one

I would fly to you

To make my life in your shadow

Even without love or warmth

Perhaps with nothing

Except that once

We were

You could always send me away

You could always

Find our treasure

You could always ...

But whatever song we weave

My beloved friend

We were

We know

We were

Were we not? an enduring question about love that beckons affirmation of emotional well being. Bravo, nice take on togetherness and admiration.
